But Panurge is too overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude to listen. As with Secrets and similar erotically charged texts, Panurge’s (and the reader’s) urgent desire to know (in order to satiate the insatiable beast and postpone cuckoldry) encounters discursus interruptus.[45] The promised remedy (leave well enough alone) is philosophically wise but, most importantly, keeps intact (for next time) the alarming secrets about women, their bodies, and the trouble they cause men.
